BUONE VACANZE

Carissimi,

nel momento in cui un aereo o un autobus, un treno o un traghetto vi fanno mettere piede sul nostro territorio, sono lieto di accogliervi a nome di tutta la comunità cristiana.

Vi auguro una serena permanenza.

Vi auguro di trascorrere un periodo di riposo sereno in cui nutrire corpo e spirito di bellezza, di pace, di autentiche relazioni umane. Sentitevi accolti in questa terra di tradizioni antiche,  stratificate da tante culture e visioni del mondo, terre divenute laboratorio di  futuro.  Un uomo che s'intendeva di viaggi, San Paolo, animato da grande curiosità e altissima passione per Gesù Cristo e per l'umanità, condensa in cinque punti il segreto del "viaggiare": essere gioiosi, tendere alla perfezione, farsi coraggio a vicenda, avere gli stessi sentimenti, vivere in pace (cfr. 2 Corinti 13,11). Sembrano ideali lontani, quasi impossibili per il nostro tempo di grandi cambiamenti e di scarsi punti di riferimento. Ma lasciate che vi dica: Coraggio! Approfittate del tempo che vivete qui. Apritevi alle sorprese dello Spirito per alimentare la speranza nell'amicizia autentica e nella vita della vostra famiglia.

Seguite il consiglio di papa Francesco: per leggere i segni dei tempi, dobbiamo ascoltare sia i giovani sia gli anziani. Entrambi sono la speranza dei popoli.

Al benvenuto, unisco il ricordo nella preghiera di tutta la Chiesa locale e, specialmente,   delle contemplative che vivono nei monasteri benedettini e clariani di Alcamo.

My dear friends,

From the moment you enter our territory, whether you come by plane, bus, train or ferry, it is my pleasure to welcome you to Trapani on behalf of the Christian community.  I would also like to wish you a peaceful and restful stay that will enable you to nourish your body and your soul with beauty, peace and genuine human relationships.

Feel welcome to this land of ancient traditions which has been formed by many layers of different cultures and different visions of the world: a land that has become a laboratory for the future.

St. Paul, a man that was an expert in traveling, was animated by a tremendous curiosity and passion for Jesus Christ and for the human race. He summarized the secret of "traveling" in five points: rejoice, strive for full restoration, encourage one another, be of one mind, live in peace (2 Corinthians 13:11). They seem like distant ideals, nearly impossible for our times of great change and insufficient points of reference, but let me say to you: courage! Take advantage of the time you spend here. Open up to the surprises of the Spirit in order to nourish hope in a genuine friendship and in the life of your family. Follow Pope Francis' advice: in order to read the signs of the times we must listen to the young and the old. Both are the hope of the peoples of the world.

In addition to my welcome, I would like to remind you of the prayers of all the local churches and, above all, those of the contemplative orders that reside in the Benedictine and Clarian monasteries of Alcamo.
